from austin minnesota to wall, south dakota

on tuesday morning we stopped in a diner for an egg and bacon breakfast, then we found a little coffee shop on main street where we procured a couple espresso's and then we got back on the freeway. we saw the huge jolly green giant in blue earth, mn. from the freeway!

we were headed for sioux falls or mitchell, sd for lunch. we weren't hungry yet when we got to sioux falls so we stopped in mitchell. the restaurant we had chosen in our aaa guidebook was only open for dinner, so we drove around looking for something that looked not too scary, and we ended up and some anonymous "family dining" joint where i enjoyed my first patty melt.

mitchell is the home to the famous corn palace, which i was kind of excited to see, but actually seeing it was a little anticlimactic, we drove by it and didn't even bother to get out of the car, or take any pictures. maybe if we were in a more leisurely state of mind we might have taken a little more time there, but it seemed like kind a a cheesy tourist trap, and was more interested in getting to the badlands, so we hit the road.

we drove all the way to wall (yes the famous wall of wall drug) we checked into our room and went for a walk ove to the famous wall drug, which was pretty much a dissapointment. we ended up down by the train tracks taking photos of random industrial stuff in the pretty dusky light. for dinner we went to the cactus cafe and had some steaks.

not a particularly eventful day, pretty much all about driving so that we could get up in the morning and go straight into the badlands.
