crush

i adore alan arkin.

i have had a crush on him ever since i saw him in the roll of barney cashman in the 1972 movie last of the red hot lovers.

i enjoyed the movie he was recently in: little miss sunshine, there were many moments that were really quite perfect, but the finale was a little over the top for me, they were trying just a little too hard to be quirky.

one of my favorite scenes of the whole movie was alan arkin (as grandpa) in the van eating popcorn (you will have to see the movie to to know what i'm talking about). it's just the tiniest little moment, but it was absolute perfection.

so i was amused when i saw this article about how arkin created a back story for his character: "...envisioning him as a second-rate saxophone player who deserted his family by performing in strip joints where he picked up a drug habit and a fondness for the ladies -- until the life caught up with him.." this is why i have such a crush on him.
